Voted Best Transmission Repair Shop in Atlanta

What some of United Transmission's customers have said about us...

Remove and rebuild the transmission in 1995 Chev Van G-20
Approximate Cost: $1,900.00
Comments: The transmission in my 1995 Chev van went up in 2001 after only 74,000 miles on it. I decided to check around at different transmission shops to get a price to fix it. The estimates ranged from $2,000.00 to $3,500.00. I also started to check the price of a new van. In my travels to car lots i meet a man that owned a car lot and he recommended United Transmission in Atlanta he said he had several transmission rebuilt at this shop and was very pleased with their work. I call them and over the phone a spoke to a man named Joe Barton. he said " if the transmission needed complete overhaul it would be $1,900.00 and he would pay to have it towed in to his shop" I had him pick the van up and fix it.

He called me in 5 days and said I could pick up the van, it was fixed. He had me take a test ride with his mechanic to make sure everything was ok. He also told me to return in a week to 10 days to have them road test in again so they could make any adjustment to the transmission if they were needed. My van has 110,000 miles on my rebuilt transmission and shows no signs of any problem. I am 80 years old and I have had many cars, trucks and vans repaired throughout my life, never have I had work done by a repair shop and was more pleased with the outcome.

I recently (9/19/2011) returned to United Transmission to have them check my Buick, it was not shifting correctly. They made a adjustment to it and it now shifts like it should. They would not charge me for what they did.

Description Of Work: Diagnosed problem, repaired/replaced catalytic converter.
Approximate Cost: $950.00
Comments: I took my 2004 Buick to a local dealer because it was behaving strangely. They gave me a laundry list of repairs to be made, with an estimate of over $5,000 - more than the car is worth!

The largest item was a new transmission. Based on recommendations from friends whose families have used him for years, I took it to Joe Barton at United Transmission for a second opinion.

I hoped that he'd be able to give me a better price for the work, so I was more than pleasantly surprised when he said I didn't need a new transmission at all. The problem was with the catalytic converter, which he repaired for $950.

Joe saved me $4,000 and did a quality job that was right the first time. He is straightforward, honest, and fair. No one wants to need transmission work, but when there's a problem it's good to know there's someone like Joe Barton at United Transmission to take care of it.

Joe helped me replace a transmission in my father's car quite a while ago, and he and his staff were just great to work with and I trusted him immediately. And as a woman who knows nothing about dealing with a car that's difficult to do. I just called him for a referral because I'm having trouble with my car and wasn't sure where to take it. He gave me a name and phone number right away of an auto repair place he thinks really highly of. So if you need work on your car or just a referral, call Joe. He's honest and up front and you can trust what he tells you.

"I actually didn't have any work done here because they were extremely honest with me. They were so nice and quick to respond. About an hour after I dropped the car off Joe (the owner I believe) called me up and told me to call my dealership "and raise holy hell!" The inside of the place is amazing...if you like quirky little holes-in-the-walls like I do. There are browning thank you letters from the last several decades covering the walls and transmissions all over the floor - it's very charming in an odd way! Nothing is computerized. Joe said "We're gonna get on computers here one day!" as he wrote down my information. My response was "Hey it looks like your system has worked fine all of these years. If it's not broke...don't fix it right?"

It's been a while since I have been here for service but I wanted to review it, anyway. Since I was in there for service, I have called United Transmissions for referrals on other car repairs I have required and I have yet to be disappointed.

One day, I put my car into reverse, heard a loud "clunk", lost all shifting power, and had my Overdrive light start blinking incessantly. I could still drive the car but only up to about 35 MPH, at which speed the RPMs were insanely high and the car was seriously revved up. I happened to be near enough to a dealership that I knew so I drove it there and left it to get an estimate (this was on a Sunday and I was going out of town the next morning so I had to sort of "check it in" to be looked at the next day).

The dealer called me the next day and said it would cost A LOT of money to get me a new transmission. I am not sure if this was for a rebuild or not, but it was a huge amount of money. My very dear mother, who has the same make of car that I do, did a little research and found a highly regarded place called United Transmissions. I called them and told them what the dealer's estimate was and they took charge. I then called the dealer, gave them CC info on the phone to pay for the diagnostic fee, and told them to release my car to the tow truck sent by United Transmissions that was currently en route. They picked up my car, took it in, and called me the next day with an estimate that was a full $1000 less than the dealer's estimate.

They put a rebuilt transmission in my car, which was fine by me. They rebuild the transmissions there. The work is guaranteed but I am way past the guarantee time period and so far I have had no problems (I do have a vehicle with notoriously bad transmissions, BTW). The shop is not fancy - it has that look of a place doing serious auto work - and there is no real waiting area so you pretty much want to drop your car off and get on out of there. But, they had great prices and did very good work and that was all I really needed.
